New York pianist and technician Dr. Willis Glen "Chip" Miller, III moved to Interlochen in 2018, becoming the resident piano technician at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Dr. Miller's academic contributions to this field began in 2001 with his dissertation The Effects of Unequal Temperament on Chopin's Mazurkas. His research into piano tuning techniques of since 1700 has developed into a training and resource site for technicians, The Art of Piano Tuning.
During the course of his work into nineteenth century piano tuning techniques, Dr. Miller developed a form of synesthesia, associating color patterns with harmonic frequencies. These associations led him to develop Colormusik - software that renders sheet music in color - and the recording Key Color, a "cycle" that juxtaposes the music of Bach against romantic composers.
His recordings are available online here, here, here, and here.
